The Hong Kong Marine and Port Board (HKMPB) support the Group’s P&I Qualification with funding for Hong Kong Citizens and Permanent Residents

Wednesday, 20th November 2024

The International Group (IG)’s Protection and Indemnity Qualification (P&IQ) course was approved in November 2024 for the Marine and Aviation Training Fund (MATF) for Hong Kong Citizens or Hong Kong Permanent Residents. Under the MATF training grant administered by the HKMPB, 80% of the qualifying participants’ course fees will be covered by the MCF.

Chris Adie, Chair of the IG Education Committee, commented:

"We are delighted that the MATF supports the upskilling of marine insurance professionals and the development of talent through co-funding local personnel in their pursuit of the P&I Qualification. In the last 12 months, we estimate that around 105 candidates from Hong Kong have taken a P&IQ exam. In addition, 19 candidates from Hong Kong have completed the P&IQ. We hope that the MATF funding will make it easier for eligible candidates to sign up to take the P&IQ. Our exams are aimed at helping to improve and raise standards in the shipping industry. Topics covered in the P&IQ include an introduction to the shipping industry, People Risks, Cargo Risks, Pollution Risks and Collision, amongst others."

This development follows Mr Nick Shaw, Group CEO’s visit to the Hong Kong Maritime Week in November 2024, where he met with the HKMPB to explore ways to strengthen collaboration.
